Official Picigin Merchandise!
This dynamic illustration is inspired by a very important segment of my town s lifestyle - the game of Picigin. Sport originated on the sandy Bacvice beach in Split. It was first played in 1908. by a Croatian student group who found it difficult to play water-polo in the shallow sandy water. So instead, they began playing a different game suitable for the environment.
The traditional ball is a handmade peeled tennis ball, polished off to a certain rubber thickness so it has a perfect bounce.
Players stand in a circle and bounce the ball to each other trying to save it from falling in the sea. In order to save the ball, they show off their athletic and acrobatic skills.
Since 2005. on Bacvice beach we have a World Championship in Picigin.
Picigin was pronounced as a Croatian immaterial cultural good.
This silkscreen is a limited edition of 50 variations, where each piece is unique.
